Will Run Farm was established in the Fall of 1989, when we transitioned from involvement in the Standardbred breeding industry to Thoroughbreds. The original farm was located just five miles outside of the historic battlefields of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; however as of July 2007, we moved to Grampian, PA, just outside Dubois and Northwest of State College.
The name “Will Run Farm” originated from an old kennel name “S & S Will Run Kennel” used by Reece & Jeff Swatsworth during their involvement in AKC Registered Field Trial Beagles that spanned over 50 years. We found the name “Will Run” to be quite appropriate in expressing our commitment in breeding quality racehorses that are sound, honest, and hard-knocking competitors. We are committed to breeding the best POTENTIAL RACEHORSE, often realizing that the chosen mating might not have the highest “commercial popularity/appeal”.
Our first acquisition was Quite Amazing, purchased off the track as a late three year-old in December, 1989, for a broodmare prospect. That purchase turned out to be a lucrative one, as Quite Amazing went on to produce several black type and superior black type runners. Quite Amazing’s production speaks for itself, having produced 16 registered foals, which includes a yearling of 2009, (1 foal-Tournament of Kings, died as a yearling), 11 winners including a Grade I placed MSW, 2 Stakes Winners, 1 Stakes Placed Winner, 2 Track Record Holders, a 2004 & 2005 PA. Champion Older Male, and total progeny earnings to date of $1,450,708+. She received recognition of her accomplishments in 2003 when voted Pennsylvania’s Broodmare of the Year. Her most recent offspring, a Dance With Ravens colt (born on 3/29/09), will be her last foal as we have decided to retire her safe and sound after producing 16 foals during her broodmare career.
